A simple philosophy, yet one with great impact. With this in mind, I strive to design and build furniture that is not only functional, but beautiful, and of a style and quality that ensures it retains its beauty and functionality for decades to come. Few heirlooms are as cherished as those which have been passed down to us, or with a story to tell.
My furniture designs are my own original ideas, taking inspiration from the clients' interests and the historic styles and designers throughout the ages. I use the natural beauty of the wood's grain as a decorative detail, accented with hardware or other materials to highlight or contrast the wood. I work with numerous species indigenous to North America, including maple, walnut, cherry and fir. Each of these woods has a wide variety of grain patterns, enabling many unique looks to the finished piece. I also use a large selection of sustainably harvested woods from more exotic locations if the design requires it.
To ensure that complex beauty of the wood grain is fully shown, I finish my pieces with an oil-varnish blend which is then sealed with wax. For surfaces that require more protection, a finishing coat of lacquer is applied.
